Tree of CEREC

Twenty-seven and a half years ago, a man planted a tree where there was no place for it. It was a silly idea to most in an area that saw little potential for its growth. But then a funny thing happened, that tree started to crack sidewalks and streets and stalwart buildings that had been there for years. Its groundbreaking tendencies continued relatively out of sight to most.  Even though the tree had little evidence on the surface, below ground its roots were spreading like wildfire. Soon what was happening below grade was evident above ground too. Branches of this tree appeared in every direction. Thousands of leaves sprouted to create a canopy under which other plants thrive. This tree had truly carved out a place in the place where it was planted. And it was there to stay.

But then, another funny thing happened. Those who planted the tree wanted to start over with a new sapling, rooted with the DNA of its predecessor. Why would you do such a thing to such a wonderful tree? The answer is simple yet complex at the same time. Simple in the fact that the original tree had spread as far as it could go, only limited by its own success and advancements. Complex in that we are talking about software here. A tricky business to be sure.

Sirona needed to build a new platform to last far beyond the scope of what we currently think CAD/CAM can be in dentistry. Thirty-five thousand users have given us ideas for how we can take this idea to the next level. Now it is time to bring these idea to the world. Eleven years with the current software has created workflows and protocols which could not adapt to new technologies and integration plans. This new software is better, stronger, more agile and nimble. We can manipulate data and customize the output in ways never conceived by most.

Don’t get me wrong, we will continue to rest on the ideas and principles that made CEREC what it is today. Truly, its potential will never be fully realized as technologies evolve and needs are reassessed constantly. All of these advancements are aimed squarely at providing an incomparable patient experience while providing the dentist with added confidence and tools to push himself past barriers he has set in his own way.

Join us this August 2012 to celebrate the life and future of a product that has yet to come to its full potential. Attend with friends and colleagues in training and education second to none. Even those who are not CEREC owners will find education tracks within our Imaging, Laboratory, and practice management. We hope to see you there.

Can you just imagine what this new tree will look like if our starting point is where we are today?!
